The Song Remembers When: “Every Storm (Runs Out of Rain)” – Gary Allan

We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…

In 2012, Gary Allan released the first song off his album Set You Free. And, the song “Every Storm Runs Out Of Rain” would go on to become Gary’s fourth number one!

He co-wrote the song with Matt Warren and Hillary Lindsey. And, Gary said that he wanted to write a song about hope, something positive that he could tell his kids.

Well, the hook came from Matt Warren, and Matt was down on his luck. He was having a hard time getting his songs cut, so he took a job cutting lawns to make ends meet.

As the story goes, while he was weed eating, a rock kicked up and hit him in the face! At that point, Matt turned around frustrated and thought of that line – “every storm runs out of rain” – and wrote it down immediately.  He took it to the session with Gary and Hillary and that song was born.

It’s from Gary Allan’s album Set You Free, one of Kix’s favorites, so we take a moment to remember “Every Storm (Runs Out of Rain)” by Gary Allan:
