Are You Gonna Kiss Me or Not? – Theodore’s Story

This is where YOU tell us YOUR love stories!  You know, like how you met your honey… how you found true love after all this time… or maybe even how you finally got back together with the one that got away.  You get the idea – whatever your "happily ever after" is, we wanna hear it!!!

This week’s story is extra special because it’s from a man named Theodore via his daughter Mary Ann. Theodore is almost 89 and has lost his vision, so he asked Mary Ann to write down his story…

Dear Kix,

One night in June of 1943, I went roller-skating and a beautiful girl fell on the floor right in front of me, so I helped pick her up.  She held onto me for dear life and I immediately fell in love.  We skated around and talked for a while and then later, I gave her my phone number.  Finally, after two weeks, she called and wanted to meet.  I rode my bike over three miles away to meet her, and that night, we had our first kiss!

We started dating, but, shortly thereafter, she had to move away.  She told me I could visit but it was 25 miles away and I only had a bike.  I didn’t mind, though. I went every weekend that entire summer.  Eventually, I got a good job and was able to get a car, and then, I visited as much as I could.

By August of 1944, we got engaged, but we didn’t get married because her parents didn’t approve.  Then, in January, she found out she was pregnant. So, after a lot of hurdles, we ran away and finally got married on February 17th.  We were so happy!

My wife was a good cook, a hard worker and very thrifty.  She was always a loving mother and raised five wonderful children.  She is one in a million! Some of my favorite memories are of our time together fishing for walleye in Quebec!

Sadly, in 2002, I started to lose my sight, but my wife took care of me. But then, in 2006, she got dementia and could no longer drive.   And, in 2011, we had to admit her to a nursing home.

What’s amazing is that she still knows me and kisses me when I visit at least three times a week.  She holds my hand so tight that I can't get it loose and I have to pry it off.  We are still very much in LOVE more than 70 years later!

Thanks for letting me share my story, Kix!

Kix's Response:

Wow… Did you hear that?!?! More than 70 years later… You've got to love that! It still happens, folks – a love that last a lifetime!

Thanks for the inspiration, Theodore!
