Hey Kix,
I'm a pretty big country music fan. I'm always checking the charts hoping to see my favorite songs and artists make it to the top.
So, I was wondering… How is a song chosen to be a single and released from an album to the radio? Is it the artist’s choice? Does country radio decide? Or, does the record label make the decision?

Good question, Ryan, and I can tell you, for an artist, its one of the most excruciating and important decisions of an artist’s career.
To answer your question: first, your album is sent out to some key radio station managers to get their feedback, and then the label will pass it around to all the people that will be trying to help get it out to America, and then you have your manager and the people you depend on for publicity, etc. give their two cents… Finally, everybody chimes in – and hopefully, you get a chance to play the new music LIVE to get some feedback from an audience.
At the end of the day, it’s the singer who makes the decision. It’s their life and the label will tell them what they feel the best choice would be, and hopefully, the artist agrees, but the singer has to go with their gut. They have to follow their heart, do what they they feel will be the best for their career, and pick the song that has the message they want to send to their fans!
Of course, if radio doesn’t play it, the fans won’t hear it, so it needs to be a hit!!!
These decisions are where careers are made or lost…
