Our Kidde Hero of the Week spotlights Hector Montoya.

This week, Neal Zipser, who works for Kidde, emailed us and turned us onto this pretty amazing story out of Texas…

Nine-year-old Hector Montoya was saving his money up for a PlayStation 4, but changed his mind about the use of his funds when he saw a story on the local news. The report featured a story about a mother and child who died in a house fire because they didn't own a smoke detector. Hector was inspired to take his money and purchase around 100 smoke detectors for homes in need. Then, Hector teamed up with the Grand Prairie Fire Department to install them in homes. Hector told KXAS-TV in Dallas, "I was going to buy a PlayStation, but I decided saving a life was more important because one life lost is too many."

When teenagers Ashley and Peyton Harder heard about the selfless act, they decided to help the cause by making a donation to purchase more smoke detectors. But, that's not all. They also bought Hector a PlayStation 4. Ashley explained to KXAS-TV, "To see a nine-year-old worrying about so many others, you can't help but want to give him what he wants. We thought that he deserved something special." For more about this story, click here.
