Our Kidde Hero of the Week spotlights Justin and Ashlee Mullins.

This week Chris Mullins emailed us and turned us onto this pretty amazing story…

Dear Kix,

I nominate Justin Mullins, 19, and Ashlee Mullins, 16.  They are heroes to me and to so many others because they immediately sprung to action after they saw a man get shot during an argument over a lawnmower in our neighborhood.

Ashlee ran into the road to stop a school bus full of kids from entering the area of the shooting.  And, Justin ran to assist the victim lying in the yard with a gunshot wound to the upper left leg and ankle.   The man was in bad shape because the bullet had hit the femoral artery.  So, Justin and Ashlee used towels and a belt as a tourniquet until the EMT's arrived.

The doctors said if it had not been for what Justin and Ashlee did, the scene could have been far worse and the man could have died.  Instead, he is recovering in ICU.

They actually ran toward the danger, instead of away from it, to help.

I'm glad to see we raised them to do the right thing and I couldn’t be more proud!

Thanks Kix,
Chris

Kix's Response:

Well, that’s kind of crazy… Getting shot over a lawn mower? But these days, nothing really surprises me anymore. I guess we’ve all got to be ready to step up when things get out of hand, and it sounds like these young people did a good job. Thanks for your letter, Chris!
