A loving dad named George emailed us with his Hero nomination…

Dear Mr. Brooks:

I would like to nominate my beautiful daughter Haley Walley.  She was diagnosed with DIPG on March 17, 2014.  This is a very rare but very aggressive form of brain stem tumor and there only about 300 cases diagnosed in the U.S. every year.  Unfortunately, it only has about a one percent survival rate and my daughter earned her wings and halo on August 30, 2014.

My reason for nominating her is because, even though I am a retired U.S. Marine, my daughter showed me more strength and courage than a whole battalion of Marines.  She never backed down from her treatments and she never stopped fighting.  She was made an honorary female Marine on March 27, 2014.

Haley was a true fighter and she even told me on several occasions that she did not want any one to take her place because she did not want anyone to have to suffer but her.  She was only fifteen years old but she got the meaning of life better than most people who live a long life ever will.

Thank you for reading this!

Sincerely,
George Walley

Kix's Response:

That’s so sad, George, but I guess the best we can do here on Earth is to try and leave it a better place than we found it and inspire others to do the same. It sounds like your daughter did both of those things.

I really appreciate you sharing this with us.
