This week’s story is from Melissa and her husband Patrick…
Hello Kix,
My husband and I met on a blind date on a Friday night back in November of 2007. We hit it off great, had a nice meal and went to see a movie. But, I didn't hear anything from him on Saturday, so I used our mutual love of racing and Dale Jr. to text him about the race that weekend. I made a goofy comment about Jr.'s racing season and he responded!
Immediately after that, our relationship grew and we spent every weekend together…even with an hour and a half commute. He proposed a little less than a year later, but that December I was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma (bone cancer).
We decided the best place for treatment was Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. This was a two hour drive and we would have to spend several weeks there for treatment. He stood by me through all of that and never once left my side. He would even stay in my hospital room the entire day during treatment…
I’m happy to report; we celebrated our fifth wedding anniversary on September 19th.
