This week's question is from Kathy who asked…

Hey Kix,

I love the show and listen every week!  You always seem to have the answers to EVERYTHING!  So, how about this one: Who decides which songs to release from an album?  Is it the artist or the record label?  Is the artist allowed any input in the decision?

Thanks for your time!

Signed,
Kathy

Kix's Response:

Thanks for your question, Kathy.

Well, ultimately the artist makes the call – but if your record label is telling you there’s a song – other than the one you have in mind – a song on the album that the radio stations are really liking and fans are calling about, that can certainly change an artist’s mind because at the end of the day, you, the fans, are the boss of us.

Every artist has favorites, but, hopefully, all the songs on that album are important to the artist or they wouldn’t have recorded them in the first place. So, sometimes if you’re an artist, you just might have to wait until the next single for the song you were thinking about.

"Boot Scootin' Boogie" was actually the fourth single off our Brand New Man album, so the order may not be what you have in mind, but it’s sure good when an album’s been out for a while to still have a few bullets left in the gun!!!

Thanks for your question, Kathy!
