The Song Remembers When: “Kill a Word” – Eric Church ft. Rhiannon Giddens

We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…

Eric Church co-wrote “Kill a Word” with songwriters Jeff Hyde and Luke Dick. Now, it was Luke who had the title “Kill One Word.” And then, he changed “one” to “a” and that song had a new direction.

Luke said that the first verse came in a matter of minutes, and he then took the song to Jeff and the two finished another verse. Well, Jeff plays guitar for Eric, and he asked him to help finish the song.

Eric said that song is so important today with all the bullying taking place and with the country so at odds politically – its words that can sometimes hurt more than anything physical.  As far as adding Rhiannon Giddens from the Carolina Chocolate Drops, Eric said that he was just a fan of hers and knew she could sing from the heart…

So, this week’s The Song Remembers When is Eric Church with “Kill a Word:”
